Beijing 北京

China was an exciting adventure! Everything was full of discoveries, every little thing was different and fresh to my eyes. Coming from the west we quickly adapt to the country since we spent a lot of time researching before travelling. My partner knew Mandarin, which helped a lot during the journey. In Beijing I was expecting to see a huge city, full of skyscrapers and tech, a place where people lives in a future ahead of us. Beijing is big indeed, but it was really different of what I could think about it (Shanghai was the one). The city is very traditional in that sense, preserving their main city centre areas. Some locals were surprised of seeing foreigners around -right in the city centre- and quickly started to took picture of/with us. The tech was there thou, everything is centralised in a few apps on the phone, only available there; to pay, enter to places, use the train or use as a ID. Those apps are very handy… if you are Chinese. We found our way around those, but adapting to a whole new system was a experience indeed.

Most of my pictures in Beijing were taken in the Summer Palace, and a few others in the center and the Forbidden City. After devouring Apothecary Diaries I coudln’t pass this.
