Hello there! New path ahead
Hii! If you’re reading this you are probably a game developer, or someone interested in gamedev, or maybe just a friend and I sent you the link because I’m very excited about this, otherwise I wouldn’t know how did you arrive here, but welcome! :D
After some months, a few tests and web designs, I finaly created a place that makes me happy, to showcase my portfolio -yes-, but mainly for sharing my passion for videogames, Artstation will be always there for an art overview. I would like to have a space to talk about this gamedev journey, different projects, breakdowns and thoughts in a different way from what I used to.
Since I jumped into freelancing I’ve been doing way more things that I used to do in a full-time position. For me it was great to have the opportunity to work on so many positions, levels and projects. This may be unusual, unless when referring to the AAA industry, but even there I worked on different roles, as Environment Artist, Cinematic Designer and Marketing Artist for example driven by that curiosity and desire to know more in contrast with the standard system, where gamedevs must specialise to climb the ladder in their department, I moved from one place to another. I enjoy the process of creating games, mainly on the art side with some tech knowledge to improve the visuals, like procedural texturing, small animations or scripting.
I’ve been taken pictures for more than a decade now. In the past I used to do it in a professional way, when I worked on films but now I just bring my camera with me during my trips, trying to capture anything I find interesting. I’ve been collecting these images in my hard drive for years, never knowing what to do with them. I started to upload them to Instagram years ago, to at least have a dedicated place for them but it´s not a place I would like to be, so I added a space for them in this website too. Maybe it doesn´t match the rest of the web in terms of style but oh well, that´s me! This website probably will go through some updates from time to time anyways, improving one thing at the time.
Here we are at Gamescom 2024, Andres Prados and me at the Path of Exile area. We went through the whole event on traders day getting merch and playing the demos, what a day!
I miss the blog era, where different artists or just people really had their own space on internet to talk about anything they were interested about: bloggers, forums, myspaces, foroactivo in Spain and Latam community!, People wrote about their favourite things for their own enjoyment and for others with the same curiosity without waiting anything in exchange, no monetization, no side hustle, just the satisfaction and happiness to see others sharing the same passion than you.
They were also a place to connect to others in a more meaningful ways.
Nowadays forums or blogs are not longer here, those spaces were centralised in social media places, or reddit, the forum of forums, (but not really a forum). You still can share your thoughts there, but the place is not yours, and it can disappear at any time. In the last years we all have experimented how unstable theses places have become. I think we missed a bit of individualism, and at the same time, we’re more individualist that never before. We tend to use short messages now as our main way of communication with others, tweet size texts, even with close relationships, to do not bother people because everyone is so busy nowadays. I don´t think that’s very enjoyable.
I’m not looking forward to follow those standards.
I probably wouldn’t be doing what I do without Satoru Iwata. I spent big part of my childhood enjoying games on my Nintendo DS, Gameboy advance and sp as well before it, but DS was the one that stuck with me the most. Two screens and a multitude of creative titles and ways to play, I never had enough! I only knew about Nintendo as the company who made all these games. I used to buy the monthly Nintendo magazine looking forward to discover new games and know more about them in detail since there weren’t other source to get this information at the time. I still have them! I discovered the developers a bit after when I started to watch Nintendo directs around 2012 with Iwata, Reggie and Miyamoto, I loved watching those! And it wasn’t after much after when I read more about game development. Nowhere near me something as “game development” existed, so I couldn´t even think about doing such a thing.
I keep great memories of these days, fulfilled with fantasy and joy. I wasn’t all day at home, since I could play everywhere. I used to meet with my friends in a near square, game boy on hand, cable link on the other with 4 outputs, and let the Pokemon battles start!
Guided by these memories I want to craft new fantasy worlds and visuals across videogame projects for younger audiences. Of course that’s not something I look forward to do on my own, there’s only so much one person can do, and it’s in within team collaboration that we make ourselves improve and give the best. For me, videogames are a way to share and enjoy our time together.
Thanks for reading!
